On January 15, 2011, our beautiful daughter, Amanda Marie Allison was murdered at a party by a drunken, stoned 19-year-old. In the blink of an eye, her life was taken when he pointed a sawed-off shotgun at her and fired. We had warned her of the dangers of drinking and driving, but it never occurred to us to warn her that something like this could happen. She never saw the danger until it was too late. Now we run, speak, and do everything we can to raise awareness of the unseen dangers of teen substance abuse.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."--Philippians 4:13
The pain and heartache that comes with losing a child is worse than anything we could imagine. There is no getting over it. Time doesn't make it go away. It's a pain that we'll live with until our time on this earth is over. At first, we had no idea how, or if, we could make it. We weren't sure we'd survive. Looking back at those first few weeks after Amanda was killed, I realize there's only one reason we were able to keep going...the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without His grace and mercy, we couldn't have kept going. The hope and knowledge we have that we will one day be reunited with Amanda in heaven with Him gives us the strength and will to keep going until we, too, are called home. We cannot imagine how anyone can survive a tragedy like this without that hope, without that faith, and we want to do all we can to help people get to know the loving Savior who died so that we might live.
Finally, we run to honor the memory of Amanda, our beautiful daughter taken way too early from this earth. She was murdered four days before her 18th birthday and four months before her high school graduation, two events she looked forward to as much as anything. We had no idea how many lives she impacted until after she was gone. More than 800 attended her memorial service. Her Facebook page is still visited by her friends who leave notes to let her know she's still remembered and very much missed. We'll never forget her and we don't want to let others forget her either.
So please help us reach our fundraising goals for St. Jude, Arkansas Children's Hospital, and Soaring Wings. You can help in other ways too, and these others won't cost you a dime! Visit our Running with Amanda website often to help us move up in internet searches, become a fan of our Facebook page, and follow us on Twitter.
Thanks so much. God bless!
