Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,--Hebrews 12:1

Daily Message: What we all should strive for...1 Thessalonians 1:8-10

For most of my life, Christian is not a word that would have come to the minds of most if they were describing me. I did a lot of things I'm not proud of, and a lot of things that likely did more to lead others away from Christ than to Him. These days, I try to be different. I know I'll never be perfect, but I hope the old me is buried for good.

In Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians, he praised them for their faith and the way they lived it out. These believers so lived their faith that all the world recognized them as true believers. Their trust in Jesus Christ was obvious to everyone who came in contact, and so obvious, it was spoken about to everyone else.
" 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath." ~ 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10

This is what we should all strive for, and I say that knowing I have not reached this level yet. The old me does rear its ugly head from time to time, and there are times when people observing me might not see evidence of my faith. But the Thessalonians set the bar, the bar that should be my goal and the goal of each and every one of us who place our faith in Jesus Christ.

I don't know if I'll ever reach the level of living out my faith that the Thessalonians did, but I know I have to try.
