Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,--Hebrews 12:1

Daily Message: Step into the light and be happy ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:7-9

I can remember when I was younger thinking that following Christ would mean a life deprived of fun, following a list of rules that would make life boring and dull. That's why I spent so many years chasing worldly visions of fun and pursuing passions with no eternal value.

I used to think I couldn't have fun, couldn't enjoy life, unless I was indulging in those earthly pleasures. I had no idea that the absolute easiest way to enjoy life is to hand it over to Jesus Christ. It hasn't kept hardships at bay, but even in the face of the most difficult trials, I've learned that I can love life without all those distractions that kept me from seeking Jesus for so long.

" 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:7-9

For all those years, I was the one Paul spoke of here, the one who was asleep, seeking pleasure and satisfaction from the world. The things I thought were fun then, were things to be ashamed of now, things you had to hide from reputable persons, or like the old saying goes, not things you'd go home and mention to your mother.

But now things are different. I don't need those old distractions to enjoy life anymore, and the things I do for fun and pleasure aren't things I have to hide from anyone. Serving God is fun and enjoyable, more satisfying than any of those other habits I hoped would make me happy.

So if you find yourself discouraged, distracted, and dismayed pursuing the passions of the world, it's time you turned to Jesus Christ. In Him lies true freedom, and a life filled with joy. So strap on faith in and love of Jesus as your armor, and the hope of salvation as a helmet, and learn what life can be, what it was meant to be.

Turn to Jesus and set yourself free!
