Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,--Hebrews 12:1

Daily Message: Blessed We Are, No Matter What ~ 1 Timothy 1:14

An old friend called me this afternoon, whom I haven't heard from in a long time. In fact, since I lost all my contacts when my phone was destroyed a few months ago, I didn't have a way to contact him. But we talked for the better part of an hour, catching up and reminiscing. He was in great spirits and that impressed me.

That's because he's really ill, has been for more than two years. In fact, when we first learned he was sick, I doubted he'd make it this long. The last time I talked to him things didn't look good and he was pretty down about everything. Even this time, he was just released from the hospital after going under the knife yet again. Still, he was in great spirits.
"The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus." ~ 1 Timothy 1:14

This verse brought to mind something we both agreed on in our conversation...that no matter how bad things get, there's always someone who has things worse. If we're willing to look around, even in the most dire of situations, we'll see someone in a worse predicament. And that's what we need to look for, to look at, and look to, that no matter what, regardless what situation we find ourselves in, there are people around us in a tighter spot.

And that means we are blessed. Even when things don't go our way, even when things all seem to be going wrong, even when things seem like they couldn't get any worse, we are blessed. God's grace is poured out on us ABUNDANTLY. It's a gift that comes with faith in Christ Jesus by His love for us.

So when you find yourself down, discouraged, or distraught, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and smile, because you are a child of the One True King, Jesus Christ!
