It's great timing too because our school's cross country team started practice yesterday. Back to running with the kids and I absolutely LOVE it! We have kids at all ability levels--seasoned runners to those who struggle to run a whole 400 meters without stopping to walk. Yesterday about 60 kids showed up for the first practice, and at least 10 weren't there due to schedule conflicts. That's a huge turnout and I can't wait to see these kids grow!
" 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us." -- Titus 2:7-8
The thing I love most about teaching is the opportunity it provides to influence young people. But as a high school math teacher, I rarely have an opportunity to work with kids younger than 10th grade. Helping with the cross country team gives me an opportunity to work with students as young as going into the 7th grade.
Developing those relationships and getting to know those kids over several years makes my job as a math teacher much easier. It also gives me the chance to have an even bigger impact on them.
So I'll keep running, keep racing, and keep working with these great kids. (And I should be posting more in the coming weeks as well.)
